R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics.
Application in education
Although R is designed for statistical analysis, over time users of this language have created extensions to R, called packages, that have expanded its functionality. Currently it is possible to perform text mining, image processing, interactive data visualizations and Big Data processing in R, among many other things.
